Puglia's Renaissance: The 2024 G7 Summit at Borgo Egnazia, Savelletri

In a bold and inspired move, the G7 Summit is set to take place in Savelletri Fasano, Puglia. We sat with Municipal Councillor for Fasano Laura De Mola to discuss the economic and cultural effects that the Summit can bring to the city and surrounding areas.

June, 2024

The central appointment for the G7 summit is set from June 13 to 15 in Puglia at Borgo Egnazia, a breathtaking location in the Valle d’Itria. Italy’s historical and cultural significance in the Mediterranean, bridging the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific maritime spaces, underscores the country’s central role in global affairs.

The Itria Valley, is a land surrounded by the Mediterranean – the middle sea where Italy historically and culturally holds a central position and that connects the two great maritime spaces of the globe, the Atlantic on one side and the Indo-Pacific on the other. That Mare Nostrum that we have decided to represent in the G7 logo together with another symbol of our identity: the ancient olive tree, with its solid roots anchored in tradition and with its flourishing branches projected into the future. And among the branches there are seven olives representing the seven nations and their cooperation on global challenges.

The decision to host the summit in Puglia speaks volumes about the region’s growing prominence on the global stage and its unique appeal as a destination that seamlessly blends natural beauty, cultural richness, and economic potential. “For our city of Fasano, as the former Councillor for Tourism of Fasano, I can only be proud of the territorial choice made by our government,” said Provincial Coordinator of Forza Italia for the province of Brindisi and Municipal Councillor for Fasano, Laura De Mola.

Far from arbitrary, Puglia’s selection as the location for the G7 Summit reflects the region’s strategic position as a bridge between Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as its growing importance as a hub for trade, tourism, and innovation.

“The structures built and restored by our entrepreneurs,” continues De Mola,“have been a destination for guests from various parts of the world for some years now.”

According to De Mola, the economic impact of hosting the G7 Summit in Puglia is expected to be significant. “We can well imagine the media attention that this major event will bring as a promotional return to our city first and then to the entire surrounding area. The presence of important heads of state, along with thousands of collaborators, and the presence of media from all over the world will give us a great opportunity to demonstrate the testimony of the natural beauty in which we are fortunate to live.” Moreover, the exposure generated by the summit will shine a spotlight on Puglia’s potential as a business and investment destination, potentially attracting new opportunities and partnerships that could fuel economic growth in the long term.
